he Department of Defense's (DoD) Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) initiative is developing common guidelines and specifications for the development, delivery, and management of learning on a global scale. The ADL strategy is to pursue emerging network-based technologies and common standards, lower costs, promote collaboration, and enhance performance with next-generation learning and training technologies. The ADL initiative is a structured, adaptive, collaborative effort between the public and private sectors to agree to the standards, tools, and content for the future learning environment. Developed under the auspices of the DoD's ADL initiative, the Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) is the enabler for how we will use technologies to create the future learning environment.
